Gunung Ledang Rescue by MARTS RACES
On 1st May 2008, Northern Johor MARTS organised an RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service) Emergency Communication Drill attended by hams from Segamat, Muar, Melaka, representatives from NESRAC and JASRA.
Hams were given an exposure on how important it is for hams to know how to set up a portable station. Elmers, 9M2WT, 9M2DA, 9M2FX and 9M2KMA were at hand to give hams some pointers. Hams present were given a basic description emergency communication protocol... dos and don'ts
Teams of hams were then sent to various parts of Bukit Kepong and from their locations, they sent messages back to base and to each other. By the end of the day, some teams were asking for more. So more will come in future.
18 days later... May 19th, 2008..12:00 hrs...our RACES practise were put to use.... Northern Johor MARTS received a call from Moi Adventure (Moi Adventure is a Gunung Ledang mountain guide/trekker group). Moi Adventure and Northern Johor have been planning an SAR Emergency Communication Exercise on the mountains for hams. 40 trekkers have shown interests to be hams. This call told us that 6 hikers were lost since May 18th.
Within 2 hours, we were at Sagil police station which was made the operation office. As we arrived... the police offficer in-charge requested our help to provide communication for the rescuers. Immediately we set up a communication centre at the Sagil police station with 9M2DA acting as Emergency Coordinator (EC) and activated our RACES protocol with fellow hams from Segamat, Muar and Melaka rushing in with their equipments and 4-wheel jalopies. Rescuers involved in the SAR were Bomba, JPA3 and Moi Adventure trekkers.
By 16:00 hrs rescue teams accompanied by hams moved up to scan the mountains. We set up 3 more portable stations forming a parameter to monitor the rescuers. Hams stayed up as long as there were still rescuers in the mountains and the rescuers were up in the mountains until dawn!
At 04:00 hrs, May 20th, a ham with one of the rescue team manage to spot a fire on one of the peaks. They contacted the climbers and confirmed it was their signal. Finally, the climbers were found at 9:20 hrs.
Many were impressed with our communication methods. Climbers' parents who monitored the rescue at our station were thankful so were the rescuers.
Moi Adventure and Northern Johor MARTS will still continue with our plans to hold an SAR Emergency Communication Exercise. It would probably take 2 days but it will is nothing compared to real live situations.

Mount Ophir (Gunung Ledang) Re-Open
Latest news!!
Mount Ophir campsite re-open for public started from May, 2008.
Group of my friends went up to the campsite for 3 days 2 nights camping on 17th -19th May 2008. Another 4x4 group will be up there on the coming Saturday 31st May 2008.
Really a GOOD NEWS for all the Nature Lovers and Campers.
Let's go back to the Nature!

Compound Archery Mini Competition, 6th Flr. Skudai Parade, Johor Bahru
The competition started on 9:30pm at ACE Archery Center, 6th Floor Skudai Parade, Skudai Johor.

Dinner at Restaurant Asli, Taman Perling, Johor Bahru

It's located at the Kg. Sg. Temon Baru a.k.a. Perling Seafood Village (N1°27.634' E103 °42.298') Tel : 012-7759632
We reached the restaurant around 6:30pm, it's already 40% occupied! We assume the seafood must be delicious!!
Spotted the river cruise boat form Danga Bay
We really enjoyed the view over here, especially the 'Sunset'.
Our orders :-
* Vegetables
* Toufu soup
* Butter prawn
* Sea shell
* Black Pepper Crab
* Steam Fish
For 8 adults & 5 children.......
Live Seafood
Our foods serve in 15 minutes, hmm....quite fast. The restaurant almost 90% occupied during that time.

100% FULL! Can you imagine that?
Comments on the seafood
* Sea Shell - seems like not really fresh (about 30%), we were surprise because of the 'Live' seafood.
* Black Pepper Crab - too 'Oily'.
* Fish - fresh & nice.
* Butter prawn - above average.
* Vege - good.
* Toufu soup - average.
Price
The total Damage was - MYR190.00.
Surprisingly cheap!! I mean for 8 adults & 5 children meals.
There are another 3 restaurants around that area, but I wonder why 'Zero' customer when we finish our dinner. Don't tell me they are worst than this restaurant I visited?
Even though the foods wasn't perfect, but the scenic view around that area worth visit!

ran King ran Queen Taiwan Cafe located at Jalan Molek 1/8, Taman Molek, J.B. (N1°31.849' E103°47.430')
There are many Taiwanese Cafe & Restaurants at Johor Bahru. This is the one we always visit.
The lady boss came from South Taiwan (Ping-tong, Tainan). The foods taste are the southern taste and it's different from Taipei. Examples like the Oyster Vermicelli (蚵仔麵線) & the stewed pork rice (魯肉飯) taste are different that I had from Taipei, but.....delicious too!
The cafe has simple decorated and comfort. It's crowded during lunch hour and dinner time. You need to queue up to 30 minutes if you are unlucky! :)
The best time to visit is before 12pm noon, 3pm tea break & after 7:30pm evening. The shop is open from noon time to 8:30pm.
There have full of varieties Taiwanese foods & even the 'Small' Steamboat that you only can see it in this cafe (RM15.00 each). Prices here are reasonable.
Another reason I like this cafe is.....they are all family members! Mom & dad handling kitchen, elder son handling the drinks session & youngest son is taking orders from customers. The Spirits of Family !!
You can see many 4WD Adventures photos on the wall....Cos it's the hobby of one of the family member!
They provide free Wifi services too!!
We had a chat with the lady boss and realize that the name of Q & K means - "Relax" in their village.

Found this unique ceiling fan at Lavender Cake & Bistro, Jusco Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru.
It turns slow and windless, just for decoration purpose.
Feels that......it's simulate the humans process......
When it's young, it spins fast but the 'prop' is short (seems like just start to grow...)
When it's old, it rotates slow and weak but the 'prop' grew longer......
Art? I agree if you said....
I'm having a tea break with my family. And my daughter also wonder why it's so slow and keep nagging about windless fan.......
Anyway, the area it's air-conditioned and nice environment too!
