The Famous Coconut Shake at Klebang, Malacca (Melaka).

Sunday, July 22, 2012

Under the hot sunny day, after the 'A Date With The Bloggers' event at Malacca...we (with Robin) decided to look for some drinks that can really ease the thirst! Robin suggested the Famous Coconut Shake at Klebang and without a second words, we drove directly to the destination.

The Klebang Original Coconut Shake (N2.21583 E102.20688) is located next to the Caltex Petrol Station along the main road. You will not miss it if you take note on the petrol station.

Once we arrived at the stall, the queue was Long! My goodness! It was under the hot sun....

The Long queue under the sun at The Coconut Shake's stall...

The Klebang Coconut Shake's stall along the roadside...

We realized later, the long queue at the stall was for those customers who want to 'ta-pao' (take away), there's a dining area is loacted further in at the end of the alley...

The area was packed with customers! It took about 5-10 minutes to get a table and waited for 15 minutes for the Coconut Shake....while waiting for the drinks, we tried the nasi lemak pack (RM1.20) which was not bad!

The nasi lemak available at the Klebang Coconut Shake.

Here is the Coconut Shake Special! With additional scoop of Vanilla Ice-cream on top of it.

I like the concoction of the Ice with ice-cream, coconut drink and the flesh. Refreshing! The taste was not over sweet with the nice fragrance of the coconut drink and some flesh. It's special and a 'life saver' under the humid hot day!

The process looks simple, they blended the drink with the a lot of ice cream and pour into the mixer. The magic is within the mixer!

The cost of the drink was RM2.00 and RM1.50 for without the scoop of Vanilla ice cream.

It's really reasonable price for the unique Coconut Shake!

The business hour : 12.30pm-6.30pm daily (Friday: 2pm-6.30pm)

Friday, June 15, 2012

Mei Zhong Yuen Confectionery Shop (N2.197598 E102.24559) is located along Jonker Street of Malacca. Visited the shop after our lunch from Hainan Association just 2 doors away...

For me, this is one of the hidden gem in Jonker street!
They sell many type of biscuits which are delicious and where they got the name as "Melaka Famous Traditional Homemade Biscuit". Especially if you looking for the Taiwan Famous Sun biscuit (太阳饼), you can get it here! I never come across any others shop in Malaysia selling it!

There were full variety of biscuits display in front of the shop...I was attracted by it...

Single red dot are Durian flavor and double red dot are coffee flavor. The Sun Biscuit was really melt in my mouth! I believe the quality is equally good compare with the Taiwan Sun Biscuit.

Our group fully filled up the shop...everyone was busy tasting the biscuits and many of them grab few packs of their Premium products of Mei Zhong Yuen.

Big bags...small bags...everywhere...

Another selling point of the confectionery shop is...they prepare and bake the biscuit on the spot! Well, if you have free time, you can just stand and watch the making of the Lotus biscuit...

Authentic Hainanese Dishes at Hainan Association, Malacca (Melaka)

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

After visiting the Cheng Ho Cultural Museum, our next destination was Hainan Association (N2.197499 E102.245662) along Jonker Street, Malacca. There will be many Hainanese dishes presented by the Friendly Hainan women from the association.
The session was arranged in the air-conditional hall on the first floor of the building. The dishes were nicely arranged on the table when we stepped in...

That was the session we can probe our questions to the ladies for the foods knowledge. I was busy taking photos of everythings on the table...
Let's start from the Hainanese snacks...

Sesame Glutinous Rice Balls with peanut (煎堆)

I like the sesame rice ball very much during my childhood, but didn't expect it was one of the Hainanese snacks...

Bua Ta Art 蒸压粑

This snacks caught my attention once I stepped close to the table, it had a unique taste and special! Nice! My first time tasting it.

Traditional Hainanese snack : Yi Bua

Hainanese Steamed chicken (文昌鸡)

This type of chicken is very common nowadays whenever you order chicken rice at everywhere between Malaysia and Singapore. For Hainanese, chicken will be the main course for every event or occassion. My another childhood favorite, even now...

The dish I forgot the name of it...stir freid vege with prawns...

Chicken rice ball

Of course you will see the Malacca chicken rice ball which is Very Famous in whole Malaysia. The history I read was originated from the 'Tan Hoe Kee' family - Muar, many decades ago...yet to find out the true...some said, all the shops selling Hainanese Chicken rice ball in Malacca now are the grandson or relatives from the Tan family...

When the Hainanese cuisine presented on the table, the bloggers were busy snapping photos...

A Date With The Bloggers

Beside the Hainanese dishes, in conjunction with the Nyonya Cuisine from Ms Lucy Wee (Lady boss of Anak Nyonya Restaurant) also presented on the next table...

The drinks of that day were sponsored by Jonker Gallery. They had few variety with different concoction with apple and others. The Refreshing Fruit Tea did the nice effect to cool us down during the hot and humid day...too bad it's Only available around Jonker Street area. Hopefully I can see the colorful bottle at Johor Bahru one day...

Once we finished photography the dishes on table, the making of chicken rice ball session had started...these were the ladies who made the Delicious Hainanese foods on that day! Kudos!

The Hainanese women at the Association.

Cheng Ho Cultural Museum at Malacca (Melaka)

Saturday, June 9, 2012

Second day of "A Date With Bloggers" at Malacca.

Had our simple buffet style breakfast at Cheng Ho Cafe, and follow by a nice tour at Cheng Ho (Zheng He) Cultural Museum (N2.195301 E102.248653) which is located at Lorong Hang Jebat of Melaka.
The Museum was restored from the Original Cheng Ho warehouse complex or Guang Chang where Cheng Ho Treasure Fleet visited Malacca (Melaka) at least 5 times in his the seven voyages to Western Ocean, interesting part was...all the buildings have the Ming architecture style.

Cheng Ho Cultural Museum at Malacca

The entrance fee is RM20 for adult and RM10 for children. It's reasonable with the rich information Museum.

"Zheng He led seven expeditions to what the Chinese called "the Western Ocean" (Indian Ocean). He brought back to China many trophies and envoys from more than thirty kingdoms – including King Vira Alakeshwara of Ceylon, who came to China as a captive to apologize to the Emperor.

There are speculations that some of Zheng's ships may have traveled beyond the Cape of Good Hope. In particular, the Venetian monk and cartographer Fra Mauro describes in his 1459 Fra Mauro map the travels of a huge "junk from India" 2,000 miles into the Atlantic Ocean in 1420. What Fra Mauro meant by 'India' is not known and some scholars believe he meant an Arab ship. However, Professor Su Ming-Yang thinks "the ship is European, as it is fitted with a crow’s nest, or lookout post, at the masthead, and has sails fitted to the yards, unlike the batten sails of Chinese ships."  Source from Wiki.

The History of Cheng Ho :-
"Zheng, born as Ma He (馬和 / 马和), was the second son of a Muslim family which also had four daughters, from Kunyang, present day Jinning, just south of Kunming near the southwest corner of Lake Dian in Yunnan.

In 1381, the year his father was killed, following the defeat of the Northern Yuan, a Ming army was dispatched to Yunnan to put down the army of the Mongol Yuan loyalist Basalawarmi during the Ming conquest of Yunnan. Ma He, then only eleven years old, was captured by the Ming Muslim troops of Lan Yu and Fu Youde and made a eunuch. He was sent to the court of one the emperor's son, Zhu Di the Prince of Yan, where he was called San Bao (三寶/三宝, or 三保) meaning Three Jewels." If you want to know more about the history, please visit Wiki.

The Cheng Ho Famous Ship name Bao Chuan (Treasure Fleet)

China had the excellent ship expertise during the Ming Dynasty. The Bao-Chuan (Treasure ship of Zheng He) was A large wooden vessel commanded by the Chinese Admiral Zheng He on seven voyages in the early 15th century.

"The purported dimensions of these ships at 137 m (450 ft) long and 55 m (180 ft wide) and a capacity of 2800t are at least twice as long as the largest European ships at the end of the sixteenth century and 40% longer and 65% wider than the largest wooden ships known to have been built at any time anywhere else. These dimensions are disputed on practical engineering grounds with some suggesting they were as short as 61–76 m (200–250 feet) or that they could only have been used on special occasions in the relative safety of the lower Yangtze river." If you like to know more about the Bao-Chuan (Treasure Ship), please clcik here.

Beside the History of Zheng He (Cheng Ho), the Museum also contain some little notes about the "The Legend of Puteri Gunung Ledang" and "Hang Tuah".

We saw many big and small wells along the way in the Museum...and I believe as long as there's well, that should be the territory of the warehouse complex.

One of the well in the Cheng Ho Cultural Museum

Zheng He (Cheng Ho) and his Bao-Chuan - Treasure Fleet (which can accomadete about 500 peoples) started the first voyage on year 1405 and the last 7th voyage was on year 1433.

Among all the display and the history corner of the Museum, I like the Miniature of Melaka very much! Photos below...

Miniatures of Malacca

Miniatures of peoples at Malacca

Once we finished most of the area in the Museum, we had been directed to a Nice garden with Full of antiques especially the unique building architecture! I called - 'The Time Machine'.

There was a tea garden area for visitors enjoying the tea and also admiring the Cheng Ho History from the Chinese Classical Puppet theater just opposite...

We spent about an hour in the area and it was not enough time for me to explore every corner of the Museum...really appreciated to the Organizers of 'A Date with Bloggers' at Melaka who arranged the tour.

I will definitely visit back again for every detail of Cheng Ho History, because he was the guy who made a huge influence to Malaysia and also to Singapore...
